I made a mistake this month

I made a mistake in my last few newsletters.

They were all focused on how to make money on Medium, but that wasn’t the mistake. Those were all things that I’m doing right now to earn money on that platform.

The mistake was more basic.

I never addressed the elephant in the room; fostering the ability to show up and post consistently.

There’s probably nothing new to be added to consistency, but I’ll share with you what works for me. I answer to my future self.

My future self wants to be proud of my current self. The only way to do that is to follow through with the things I set out to do, even when I don’t want to do them. There are a lot of days like that. I don’t want to post on X. I don’t want to write on Medium.

But I don’t answer to current me, I answer to future me and I want him to be proud of me.

So I post, and I write, and I do the little things over and over.

I made a post today on some stats that help me when I feel, ya know….blah.

To be in the top 1% of podcasters, you only need to post 21 of them.

To be in the top 1% of writers, you need only survive the first five years.

To be a top 1% investor, put your money in a simple low cost index fund and leave it alone for ten years.

We just need to find a way to show up and do the basics everyday.

That’s all it takes to be extraordinary. I can do that, and I suspect you can to.

What I’m Working On This Week

I’m developing my offer, that elusive thing I can provide to people that has value. It’s going to be a full guide on how to make your first $500 on Medium and how to compose stories that have impact (and get boosted). Right now 15% of stories get boosted, the average for Medium is less than 1%.

I can walk people through that process, earn them money, and save them all the time I lost learning Medium.

One Tool I Love

I’m enjoying Gemini AI. I often write a story but can’t seem to find the right ending. I take the entire story and plug it in, and ask Gemini to generate five endings that tie the story together.

It works.

Even if I don’t use one, I can often blend two together to come up with a good way to end.

Talk soon,

Josh
